Limp Bixkit( my personal favorite)
Five finger death punch
Nirvana(another favorite)
Soundgarden(favorite,named after a statue)

Many of the band names we hear are from incidents or accidents that sound good at the time. For instance breaking Benjamin came from the lead singers penchant for knocking things over thus the band name. Limp Bizkit came from Fred Durst's Dog Bizkit, who limped when he walked.

Led Zeppelin I read they got their name because they could play really heavy (Led instead of Lead) but soft and light as well (Leppelin because airships float through the air),or something to that effect.

It was originally Lead zeppelin as in the metal, but it was thought it could be miss- interpreted as 'Leed' Zeppelin, so the spelling was changed to Led.

Monty Python's Contractual Obligation Album - Wikipedia (1980) from which the below text if quoted:

"Two bands drew their name from "Toad the Wet Sprocket," an imaginary group featured in the Eric Idle monologue "Rock Notes." The name had originally been featured in a parody of The Old Grey Whistle Test on Rutland Weekend Television in 1975. The first Toad the Wet Sprocket was a British heavy metal band of the 1970s, which released a few singles and appeared on the 1980 compilation album Metal for Muthas. The second Toad the Wet Sprocket was a longer-lived American alternative band of the late 1980s and early 1990s."

I heard that Keith Moon accidently named the band when Jimmy Page was telling him about his ideas for the music. Seems like Keith said "That'll go over like a lead Zeppelin."

Many of these aren't particularly strange, or have explanations:

-Paramore is a female-fronted band, with an alternate spelling of "paramour".
-Likewise "motley crew", i.e., alternate spelling
-Ben Folds Five was a band featuring Ben Folds.
-Foo Fighters name has been explained as having to do with some things seen by pilots toward the end of WWII that they called "[censored] balls" or "Foo Fighters."
-Godsmack got its name from some Alice in Chains lyrics.
-Twisted Sister was composed of cross-dressing heterosexual (presumably) males.
-Iron Maiden is obviously named for an iron maiden (torture device).
