Hello Folks...

I own a 1966 Dodge Coronet... the car has a TF 727 Tranny.... and I need to change the oil
Since the "old Type A Suffix A is no longer avalible... I am thinkig about the MOBIL 1 ATF 220 ( should be a ATF II ... or so )
Is this ATF o.k for my TF 727 ???

Thank you

Juergen

The recommendation in MOPAR circles for 727 transmissions has been the older Ford type "F". The type "F" is known to give firmer shifts.

Wow IMO one of the best automatic transmissions made back in the day. That along with the Turbo 400 and Ford C6. I'd go with Type F ATF in it.

From the Allpar site:
Dodge says use only fluids of the type labeled Dexron automatic transmission fluid or Chrysler Automatic Transmission Fluid AQ-ATF-2848A OR 2351A.

I had the 727 in Jeep Wagons. They were happy as long as they were full and had a clean filter. Dex 3. They weren't picky. I liked the 727. When it was cold and it shifted funny into 2nd, you knew it was a pint low. That and an occasional drain and filter was all they ever needed.

Dex III is recommended, but as stated, some prefer Type F for firmer shifts. You can even mix the two fluids to tailor the shift feel to your liking. Personally, Dex III works for me.

so DEX II is not zhe right stuff ? Here in Germany we have Dex III type "H" ...
or the Dexron II "D"

The newer atf +3 or atf +4 could be to slippy.... I think.

When the Tranny was new...( 47years ago ) it had ATF Type A suffix A inside... that´s why I was thinking about the Dexron II

and Mobil is well knows oil company also

Greetings Juergen

In the old daze we blended the two fluids to get what we wanted.

If your trans is stock it'll want more type F to get a firm quicker shift. If it has bumped up pump pressure then you'll want less.

Sorry , but type A was not the recommended fluid.
Dexron or ATF + of any type would be a much better choice.

dex3 or atf plus 3/4.
ive owned several of em and im currently using atf4 in an old 904.

....the owners manual calls for AQ ATF Suffix "A"
Mobil OIl ATF 200 is a Suffix "A" OIL... like inthe OLD DAYS when the tranny was Young...

I think it will be the right choice...

I sure hope it isn't like Dex VI, which is also supposed to be backwards compatible but apparently isn't in all transmissions...

bought 5 gal of Mobil ATF 200 yesterday... 4 USD a quart
so tomorrow I will change the stuff.

Bought the oil from a Mobil /Exxon Distributor ( friend of my DAD ) he said also, that Suffix "A" is importend... because of the friction stuff inside the oil...

Will keep you informed
