first off, happy fathers day to all the dads on the forum. Hope yall have a great day.
Im curious, are the napa gold 1356 and 7356 identical? the specs are exactly the same, besides the different looking baseplate. are they interchangeable? When I had my altima, they would always give me a 1356 at Napa, now looking for a filter for the same car online, it specs a 7356. any reason why?

Sometimes the computers at NAPA can spit out the wrong recommendation. This happened for my '05 4 cyl. Caravan for about 3 years before they fixed it. The NAPA recommendation for my engine was a much larger filter used on the 2.7 engine and did not cross with the OEM Mopar number.

This is why I always double and triple check aftermarket filter recommendations to make sure all the ducks are in a row. I have even called WIX to verify filter discrepancies for my ag. equipment at work. Sometimes WIX will consolidate or change filter recommendations that take a while to show up in their search site and/or catalog.

What year and engine was your Altima. I saw a 1358 recommended at the WIX site, but no 1356.

Don't recall the details of why Wix/Napa changed but they did change to the 7356, so buy with confidence if you wish. You might do a search here and find the particulars. Seems the 1356 was discontinued, but not sure.

Wix felt it necessary to change the baseplate geometry of the 51356/1356(NG), so the 57356/7356(NG) supersedes it. Initially the NG7356 used a nitrile rather silicone adbv but it's now updated to proper Napa Gold silicone. One other difference, the 57356/7356 use dome end bypass rather than traditional thread end bypass in the 1356. I would bet it now has more media area than the 1356.

I'm not 100% positive the 5/1356 has been discontinued completely, but it's no longer listed for any of the Honda and Nissan applications I've checked.

I posted this on 2-22-2013 here.

I have been using Wix/NAPA 1357 on my two cars, a 2007 Nissan Altima 3.5 and a 2000 Honda Accord I-4, since 2007 without a problem, as sayjac mentioned.

In December, the wife purchased a 2013 Accord, 3.5 V-6, and I sold the 2000 Accord.

All was well in my life until I read that Wix had changed the recommendation to the newer/updated filter.

I emailed Wix, and less than 24 hours later, I received this reply:

Question: Why was 51356 replaced by 57356? Can I still use 51356 on my 2013 Honda Accord 3.6 V6?

Would I be able to return the 51356 to my place of purchase to obtain the newer 57356?

Answer:
"57356 has a more recessed baseplate and will allow more thread engagement and a better gasket seal , If you use the 51356 on your application it will be your choice but WIX will no longer warranty that option. As a matter of fact the interchange from 51356 to 57356 was done at the end of 2011 so we never offered the 51356 for the 2013 Honda Accord models but only 57356.

The 51356 will remain because it is recommended for other applications. As I stated above, if you use the 51356 on your 2013 Honda Accord it will be your choice but WIX does not recommend".

I returned my stash of 6 1356 filters, and with no hassle, received the 57356.

Easy choice for me to make, as warranty is a factor.

I happen to have one of each in my stash and no concern at all about using the 1356 on a Honda. But, not under manufacturers vehicle warranty either.

Had a 1356 in the stash from 2 yrs ago or so that I literally just put on my Odyssey 2 weeks ago. Looked up the the application on Napa's website and saw that the new spec'd Napa gold was 7356. Compared specs on the Wix website and they are identical. Couldn't find any solid info that explained the numbering change here on BITOG.

I am actually still in warranty on my Odyssey that is now running the 1356. I am not worried but it is interesting that wix says it "will no onger warranty that option".

I just bought two 1356 and one 7356 with the $15 Napa coupon on Saturday. Need to check out the baseplates to see what is going on..I'll see if I can post pics.....

The 1356 is still spec'd for my Mazda. Wondering if the threaded mount is longer...
