I put LC 20 in my wife's 2002 Honda CR-V a week or two ago and curiously opened up the oil filler last night. I noticed something I've NEVER seen before.
Though the oil on the dipstick was still a wonderful honey color, when I ran my finger along the little baffle or whatever right below the filler, I got a solid black watery substance. Not sticky, not gritty, but the same consistancy as the oil. It was definately seperate and held together in little black strands but didn't have any feel to it or texture. This engine is sparkly clean normally but...
Could this be the softened, lubricious carbon Terry (where are ya, Terry?) speaks of? I know that sounds hokey, but I've never seen that before. Given as my saab provides me with all different varieties of coked and sludged oil, I have a feel for what the stuff normally looks/feels like....I'll let her run it another trip or two and see if I can get some more of the stuff for pics.
