Time to change the transmission fluid in my Simplicity tractor Hydro. Tuff torque says it comes with 10w-30 oil and to replace it with 5w-50 full synthetic at change. Currently running Castrol 5w-50 and its time to change again. Uses about 5 qts. Any recommendations on oil? Should I stick with castrol. How about Rotella t-6.

Hey I just changed the fluid in my John Deere LX178 with Tuff Torq K61. I used Castrol Edge 5W-50 synthetic. It is working fine and quiet.

I'd think Rotella would work fine too. That old 10W-30 that came out of my Tuff Torq looked pretty hammered...

If 5w50 is hard to come by, which it would be in my area of basically no oil selection :(, I too would go with a quality synthetic 15w50 like Steve suggested.

20w50 or even 15w40 would be great.

TT may suggest the 5w just to cover those who use them in extreme cold.

FWIW, system capacity on the K71 is 1.22gal. Just over 4qts.
