Why no HIR in the H7 bulb size?

A few of my vehicles use H7 bulbs. Id love to see an HIR in H7 and H4. It appears that only right angle type bulbs are made as HIR. Anyone know why?

I would pay good money for HIR H4 but from what I understand, they still can't make dual filament HIR.

Thanks for the link, but not exactly a readily available product...

Dont know why they dont come in HIR, but Philips Xtreme Power bulbs are probably the best for the H7.

...and last like 10% of a normal bulb?

Thankfully I have euro-type headlights with great beam patrns that illuminate the road very well.

I actually may go with the eco bulbs at this point. Ive used the +30% Xenon bulbs before with good luck. These bulbs use that sort of tech to get a normal output level with less current draw. Not bad - my driving is primarily on well traveled and lit interstates...

Actually there is a great solution. A 65w H9 bulb puts out more light than an HIR 55w bulb. Osram makes a unique product, an H7 base with a 65w H9 burner attached. It is a direct fit for an H7 application, it will focus properly, it will not overload the vehicles wires or relays. Just be sure to purchase this hybrid solution from a good source (not ebay via China, etc). Cadlepower.com is a reliable source for this hard to find long lasting bulb.

10W extra heat is a lot to put into the headlight body.

Thanks tough!

Optionsauto.com is where I go for all of Japan's major brands of speed parts. And they have them here: HIR H7 bulbs

Unfortunately, they only have the 5000K and 6000K color bulbs which might not be the style that you want.

What makes you think that these bulbs are HIR? They look just like any other typical ricer bulbs.

They are NOT HIR bulbs! Only three sources on earth ever made true HIR bulbs (GE, Toshiba and Philips). Only Philips is still in the game. They do not make an HIR bulb for other venders.

The PIAA are the so called plus bulbs in blue tint; I suspect the lifetime of them will be pitiful.

My Philips Extreme Power H4 Bulbs lasted approximately 18 months. They both went out within two weeks of each other! Short life compared to OEM but still acceptable. I was happy with the illumination. I had paid $30 for them at Amazon.

These days, I buy standard Hella for about $4 a piece and accept them. They will last for a long time as they are not over driven.

Actually, no, they do look kind of like a blue tint bulb, but the output is 3600K. That will not be blue. I guess we shall see since I ordered a pair in the H11 size for my car. I tried blue bulbs over ten years ago and found them to be lacking. All the blue bulbs I have seen are completely, and very, blue. These have a single band that is a very light blue/green sort of color.

Also, PIAA is generally not cheap stuff.

But they're also not generally considered a first-tier manufacturer.

That PIAA bulb uses two bands of blue tint. One at the top, with a clear space directly surrounding the low beam filament (in the case of the H4 in that link), and then blue tinting down the rest of the envelope to the base. The bulb also advertises "whiter" light, which is an immediate indication of intentional tinting.

How can you call PIAA a first-tier manufacturer? They are a vender, often selling snake oil, and I do not believe they actually own a factory that has ever made even one bulb. Many of their bulbs that have been tested have been demonstrated to put out less light than claimed, to have a shorter lifetime than claimed, and many of their bulbs fail to meet either the EU or DOT definition of "white". Perhaps some of their offerings of late are better, I just don't have the facts to support that conclusion. Their packaging and marketing is, however, first rate, as are their high prices.

I haven't tried their bulbs, but I sure have liked their "Super Graphite" wiper inserts. They were the best and smoothest on the 23-year-old windshield on my 89 Honda. Unfortunately, the super graphite version seems to be discontinued.

The reason I asked about the PIAA bulbs was because Amazon was having a special on them and I had some gift card credit as well, so I ordered a pair. The light color is not at all blue. It is just slightly less orange than the standard halogens. Also, the bulbs are made in Germany. Makes me wonder if they are not actually made for PIAA by Philips or Hella. When I get the thing out at night we'll see if they throw a longer beam. The projector lights on this car are not bad. I was just looking for something to throw a few extra yards of light.

I looked around for HIR bulbs in the H11 size and was not able to find anything in the price range I was willing to pay.
