NOTE From Blacksonte: Is it time to change the oil? Not unless you want to. But you certainly wouldn't have to. You're up to 9,584 miles on the oil, but metals have either held steady or increased only slightly. Iron is the one metal that increased, but that's to be expected with a longer run, and it doesn't hurt anything at low levels like this. No contamination was found and the TBN of 2.0 still shows active additive left. Go ahead and put another 2,000-3,000 miles on this oil and check back to see how much longer you can go. Great report. No problems found.

Mobil 1 0W20 With Bosch Distance Plus oil filter. Oil sample was collected using pump purchased from Blackstone. Oil is till in car, I'm planning to run it until car reaches 90K miles. That will be a little over 10K on oil. Beginning next oil change, I'm going to switch to M1EP 5W20 and change every 10K. That's a conservative but not excessive straegy.

I'm almost certain it was the SN. I don't tend to stock a lot of oil so it would have been purchased fairly recently.

TBN at 2.0 (having been 2.3 when I changed it last time with 7500 miles on oil last time), no elevation in silicone, it seems like a reasonable recommendation to me. It's not one that I'm likely to follow, but it seems reasonable.

The TBN could very well only drop down to 1.5 even with another 2-3k on the oil.

I'd run the M1 EP to 12k and pull a sample. If it looks good and you could go longer, you can back off to 10k and be conservative if you want.

How much make up oil was needed over this interval? I have the same car and motor and
since 80,000 miles, consumption is up to 2 quarts over a 5000 mile interval.

Per XOM TBN retention alone cannot judge oil condition. The oil was likely at 2.0 prior to the sample date, and will stay there for some period of time. But I agree, 10k is enough. What was the makeup oil?

The total makeup oil used was about 1 1/2 quarts added about 1/4 of a quart at a time. The first quart was the same stufff that was in the crankcase, M1 0W20. The remaining 1/2 qt was M1 EP 5W20. I'm not going much past 10K on this oil, it will have about 10,400 when the car gets to 90K. Then I'm switching to the M1EP full time and will stay with the 10K oci.
