Changed the oil and filter in my new to me 07 ltz400. I drained the tank and the crankcase. The book says. 2.1qts.sticker on the quad saya 2000ml. I put 2 qts in it which would be 1912ml. I assumed this would get it on the stick atleast but it didn't. I kept adding and checking and it took almost 3 qts. An internet search only turned up threads about oil gushing out if overfilled. Thoughts?

Were you screwing in the stick to get a reading or just sitting it in and pulling it out? Some require you to screw it in fully.
Also are you sure it was on level ground? It makes a big difference if its on a bit of a tilt sometimes.
The book says not to screw the dipstick in when checking the oil. Just set it on the tank. Working in my garage so angles are not a problem
Did you start it up and saturate the filter before you checked the level?
I've owned an LTZ400, but not for long and honestly can't remember how much oil it held. Go to a quad forum and ask the question, someone will be a current rider surely. Try this one: KFX450R forum good guys on there and I know several of them ride KFX400s, same quad.

Ya I ran it a few times for several minutes.
I have an 07 LTZ400. It's 2100ml for an oil and filter change, per the service manual. You have to run it for a few minutes, then let it sit about 3 minutes, then check the oil level.
Thanks goldhemi. Mine seems to hold almost 2.5 qts. There's only about 6 oz between add and full on the stick if I pull all 3 plugs and replace the filter.
