oil filter shell life

Hey all ,
I just got an 2000 aaccord with 73k on it.

So my buddy has two purclassic from like 5 + years. Should I use it or buy new ones? Thanks

As long as they're not rusty I think they should be fine to use.

If they were stored out of the moisture,and not rusted inside,I dont see why not.

I posted a Fram XG PH8A that was stored in my soggy garage for 20 years and it didn't look bad, media was still OK, only minor surface rust.

I put a couple 20-year old Spectrum oil filters in service some years back. They were stored in the garage with only traces of rust. Nothing bad happened.

I just put a 10 year old Amsoil SDF oil filter on my car. It was stored indoors and visibly like new so I'm not too worried.

I still have 3-4 Honda PCX-004 oil filter or my S2000 I bought 7-8 years ago, it will take me another 3-4 years before I use all of them. I also have 4-5 cartridge oil filter I bought for my E430 9-10 years ago.

I have all oil and filter stored in garage, it isn't very humid and not hot or cold here, so the filter seems to last forever, may be not forever but at least 15-20 years.
