The intermediate steering shaft on my GP needs to be replaced and my mechanic quoted me $250 for the job, which includes about 1 hour of labor. However, Rockauto has the part (Dorman, which has designed out the GM flaw) for only $47. Is this a pretty easy replacement that a novice mechanic can handle? I'm pretty sure I could take care of such a job on the Burb with no problem, but I wasn't able to locate the part on the GP without jacking it up. Is it a simple swap of the old part and new, or do I have to remove the engine support frame or anything else that would require more than basic garage tools?

Tie the steering wheel off to the seat frame. If it gets spun to one side and reattached you run a chance of breaking the clock spring.

If he is using a GM part, depending on labor rate it is not that far off...
