Trying to help with some boat maintenance on a late model 60 HP etec.

Found the top and bottom magnetic plugs for draining the lower unit. However there is a screw halfway in there that is also in the lube for the lower unit.

What is it for?

I know we fill from the bottom plug until it comes out the top one.

Thanks!

it might be an oil level overflow

usually with 2 you have the drain/fill on the bottom and the vent on top.

I think some hada 3rd thats for oil level.
I havent ever seen one personally(with 3 holes)

a pic would help. I've worked a bunch on some smaller units but nothing ever with 3 holes.

if its a different type of screw it could be the screw that holds part of the shifting lever. If it is and you remove it.. it will require disassembly to fix it.

The screw in the center between the top and bottom service plugs.

If you remove it, does gear oil come out? It looks more like a water screw to me for draining water from the impeller.

Yes gear oil came out, but not a lot.

Serviced it and went fishing all day so all is well...
