Now I am not sure if this would have been the case with the older SM formula, if the formula even changed in the UK!

But I changed the oil in the Taxi a couple of weeks ago, Maxlife Diesel 10w40 synth blend came out after 8k ish, and in went Mobil 1 0w40 New Life.

For no other reason than it matched the specs and I had heard of others using it in the same vehicle without issues.

Now I have had oil consumption issues with 0w40 Mobil 1 many years go in a high miles diesel, so did suspect it would use a bit.

Checked the oil last night and after just a tad over 2k miles it hasn't dropped that I can tell.

Wasn't that bothered if it did to be honest as slight oil use in a hard worked diesel high miler is just par for the course.

But I was certainly happy that it has used nothing.

Will keep an eye on it for the rest of the month to see if it starts to use oil.

It could also be that it was leaking oil prior to the Maxlife OCI as there was signs of some leakage low down on the engine, but not enough to leave drips.

Still undecided if I will continue with Mobil 1 0w40 as have recently spoken to a VM engine specialist based in the UK and he seems to think using a CI 4 HDEO is not a bad idea.

Have one Bosch filter on the shelf and after that i will be going over to Baldwins, B178.

Have UOA for previous OCI and shall be sampling the Mobil 1 at same mileage and posting up data soon.

Sending four samples in total to Blackstones in one package to save postage.

I am definately thinking that way.

Pity that there is little cross referencing of HDEO specs in the UK.

Luckily the VM engine is specced for CI 4 in the handbook.

Not sure if running it in my other diesels is going to happen.

But anything that keeps an engine healthy is worth a try.

ACEA specs for HDEO are E, low/mid saps are C, petrol A, normal diesel B.

Unless the engine is also fitted to a US vehicles and has APi specs it is a bit bit and miss.

Way off topic. Please excuse. In the mid 80s I helped a friend install a VM 6 cyl diesel into a mid 70s 1/2 ton Chevy pick up. He bought the engine from article he read that had the address to contact. I believe these engines were designed for stationary power plants in Europe somewhere. I had to alter the alum bell housing for the engine and his three speed SICK trans. It ran well but needed differant gearing as it wouldn't pull very well in 3rd gear.

Not necessarily in a small car type diesel.
If it is made in Europe and calls for ACEA A3/B3/B4, M1 0W40 is absolutely perfect.
