Mobil 1 15W-50 is the oil recommended by my engine builder in my application.

Is there any advantage to switch to RedLine 10W-40 now that brake-in is finished?

Red line is the better oil due to it's being ester based and fortified additive package. If cost wasn't an issue I'd run red line lubricants exclusively.
If you are going to run an oil that thick I would skip the 15w-50 and use the 20w-50 v-twin oil from mobil,if red line wasn't available. It has way more zddp and in my opinion a better oil.
If you are going to go the red line route(I would) I suggest the 0w-40 flavour. Red line oils seem to always run on the thicker side of the grade and their 50 grade is really thick.
What engine is this going in to and will it see track time or daily driver? The reason I ask is the forum could better serve you if we know what the engine will be subjected to.
Regardless call this a vote for red line.

I`ve always wondered about motorcycle oils. Do they contain a different chemistry than car oils? Anything that`d have a negative effect on a car engine?

Thanks for answering and asking info.

The engine is a LS3 base stroked to 418ciD, 664hp, 7500rpm redline, daily drive (when home) and used for high speed run on a private road (above 190mph).
Water temp never exeed 187°F, and oil temp at the end of the run is 260°F/270°F.

The goal is to find a way to save the bearings that are at this stage the most solicitated part of the engine...

After multiple positive experience with Motul 300V in Europe I would like to try an ester based in this Aluminum block engine...
Is it the case of RPHPS 20W50 or mainly G5?

RP HPS (as well as their XPR) is a grp IV with a dash of grp V. It`s an excellent oil, especially in high performance apps.

I'd use Redline. Group V

I was using any synthetic 20w50 in my Land Rover and switched to Redline 10w40 and my UOA's were coming back much better.

I BELIEVE Mobil 1 is SN rated as I JUST looked at them all trying to find SL.
I know Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30 and 10w30 are SL rated cause I just had to buy three gallons in a pinch. I "need" to stock up whenever I see SL oils. Everything except those two Mobils were SN.

Red Line is a great oil and would serve you well. You could call them up @ (800) 624-7958. I've had great conversations with them in the past

Answering your question, I'd go Red line. Also to give you another option, look into Torco too. Their SR-1 Street oils have a 5w-40 and SR-1 Racing has a 10w-40. The SR-5 is just too expensive. Amsoil also has a 10w-40 with boosted zinc too. Wicked motor you got there Bro!

Depends how much you want to spend and how fast you change the oil. There's some stout oils off the shelf by the big manufacturers. Heck, a decent HDEO would work well.

Is that 190 mph run being clocked by gps?

If you're searching for a direct replacement for M1 15w50, which has an HTHS of 4.5, Redline 10w40 is almost identical at 4.7, and their 5w40 is 4.6. RL 0w40 is a bit wimpy at 4.0. The Redline 5w50 is a monster oil with HTHS of 5.9. Unless your engine has a serious problem with fuel dilution, I don't think you need an oil that thick.

Mucher HTHS than the Mobil 1 15w50 and RL 10w40.

Is the HTHS number the determining factor in the "bearing help" process?

It is how "heavy" the oil is in the bearings. Most Euro marques shoot for an oil with an HTHS >3.5cP. This is why oils like Delvac 1 5w40 and M1 0w40 are popular choices.

Your engine, stock, spec'd an oil with an HTHS of ~3.0cP. Any of the oils we are discussing are notably heavier here, and heavier than the spec oil for the ZL1 'vette too, which is your basic ~3.0cP HTHS synthetic 5w30.
