Castrol TWS 10W60 & Motul 300V blend idea?

I have a new BMW M3 (S65 V8 - TWS factory fill) with an intercooled supercharger system that increases power to 650hp. Durning extended hard use or track lapping the oil temps run 10C to 20C higher vs the stock engine oil temps.

According to other BITOG members the TWS is an amazing oil but it tends to shear to +/- a 50WT (~17cst @ 100C) in short order. My idea was to mix the TWS approx 50/50 with Motul 300V 20W60 to keep the viscosity up for high temp operation. The bearing loads must be very high with forced induction and over 200hp more than the stock engine produces so I want to give it some added protection for high RPM use when the oil temps are above 100C.

Thoughts?
 
If the TWS isn't really up to the job why not just use something else. If you like Motul, 300V 15w50. Helix Racing 10w60 is a thicker oil than the Castrol 10w60 we get here

Fair point. I like the TWS because it was designed for the (stock) M3 engine and the 10W specs are nice for cold starts and colder weather. I was just hoping to 'dope' the oil a bit to give some added protection for extreme use. Am I off base?
 
What does the supercharger manufacturer recommend?

And why do you assume that TWS shearing a bit is a bad thing? Many oils will shear a bit at the beginning of the change interval, then stabilize and do just fine.

If the car has an oil pressure gauge, that's the best way to know if you need to go any thicker.

TWS is still being revised and updated. It is not an "old" oil.

The SC mfg doesn't give engine oil recommendations.

My reason for considering a heavier oil is that under hard use my engine will be operating at temperatures higher than what BMW had in mind so I figured that a heavier oil @ 120C would give similar protection and pressure to what the TWS would offer @ 100 C.

By "pollute" are you suggesting that TWS is superior to every other oil or that no two oils should ever be mixed together in a crankcase? I know you have a long and respect history on BITOG so I am not trying to be inflammatory, rather I am trying to learn more about modern oils in general so I can use the most appropriate one in my car.
 
10w60 or 5w50 should be fine. I think the manufacturers are calculating shearing into the scenario. I am sure BMW is aware of how TWS acts in the MM300. My understanding was that 10w60 was recommended for full protection even during heavy track use.

ringmaster - I can assure you that the persons who developed this product knew what they were doing. BMW know a lot about that too and sodo the specialist engine development Contractors they work with

If you mix products you create a compromise - one that is rarely ever better than one of the parts
 
What is your MAX oil temp?

Many think TWS is "too much" oil for daily driving.... Now a wonder if it is "not enough oil" for modded track use.

It has to be "just right" for some of us BMW drivers, right Goldilocks?
 
I can`t give you any oil advice, but you should definitely install more efficient oil cooler, especially if your car has trackday work

Maybe TWS is not at fault here, I say an oil cooler is in order for better cooling.

Have you tried straight 20W60 Motul 300V race oil?

Bit of an old thread but your mixture was exactly what caterham suggested to me (300v + TWS).
I'm using TWS now. Gets a bit low on hot idle and wanted to bump it up a bit.

he told me to mix some 20w60 motul with it.

I've used the 300v 20w60 and this is a very thick oil. (HTHS 7+)
Good for hard longer drives. Pressure stays right up under hard conditions.

But in winter it got too thick on start ups and for shorter journeys hence the change to Castrol TWS.
(in summer my oil was already at about 40+ degrees c sitting in the garage)

But mixing Motul and Castrol TWS I'm not sure about.
How would they react?
