Does anyone have any recommendations for an add-in similar to AdMuncher which works with both Safari and Firefox on OSX 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion).

Pay for AdMuncher and call it a day. I'm using it on Firefox as we speak. Zero ads.

No it doesn't say it works with Mac. It says it works with all browsers (on windows)

Ad Muncher v4.93

Download size: 582 KB
Download time: A few seconds
Platform: All Windows versions after 95

They do say they are working on a Mac Version but that it isn't close to done.

At any rate, AdBlock seems to do the same thing and work well/similarly.
