Wow...with a price like that, this is most likely my next oil. That's about the same as I pay for M1 on sale, and I have complete confidence this will work nicely in my application. Very good play, Amsoil.

.. and today we have a new AEL a bit modified as well... ;-) worse Noack but better for winter and maybe MPG ;-)

The new AFL seems to be the same with a new label and API SN + Dexos2.

So, it seems the new EMF 5w-40 is like an OE Euro oil. That really confuses already confusing Euro spec oils.

Not so confusing. Give better coverage for applications that don't need a low SAPS oil.

I think it's a bit confusing. The differences between OE, XL, Signature and Z-rod is easy to understand, and the racing oil. There is now 2 5w40 Euro oils, and the Cheaper one says it is Full SAPS (full sounds like it is better than Mid and most people do not know what SAPS means or what SAPS level they need) So, Full is more than Mid, sound better right? Wait, it's Cheaper? So, I do believe it is a bit more confusing.

The people who buy these two oils are Euro car owners. They will choose based on the particular OEM specification that each of these oils meets and not based on the word "full" or "mid" anyway.

How would name the two to make it less confusing?

Maybe it is more about an area of protection not a level:
AFL - engine + TWC/DPF (cars MY 2006-> ?)
EFM - engine mainly where TWC/DPF is not present so saps limit not so critical?

Both may deliver similar level of engine protection and deposit control but in different way - different formula.

Additional expensive equipment like TWC/DPF needs more expensive oil ;-)

Am I right Pablo?

Not all TWC need mid-SAPS, in fact most of them don't.
Just like VW 505.01 oils that switched from full to mid saps with no DPF to protect...for that same TWC reason I reckon.
It's a pity Amsoil missed the opportunity to include VW 505.01 in their full-SAPS 5W-40. More zinc is needed there.
