Vehicle: My girlfriends 2006 Ford Freestyle SE FWD 3.0 V6 with CVT transmission
Date of oil being placed into service: March 3rd, 2012
Odometer at time of oil change: 100,501
Oil used: 5 quarts Service Pro 0w-20 SN/GF-5 full synthetic with 1 quart of Red Line 5w-30
Filter: yellow Purolator PureONE PL24651
Top Up: none
Air filter: Performax PA-474
Date of sample: September 15th 2012
Miles on oil: 2,999
Miles on vehicle at time of sample: 103,500
Oil Analysis Lab: ALS Tribology, Georgia branch, using a NAPA FIL 4077 sample kit.
Previous oil used: 6 quarts Service Pro 0w-20 Full Synthetic SM
Current oil: 6 quarts Mobil 1 5w-20 SM with a bottle of Lubegard Biotech

This was an unintentionally short run. I reset the oil life at 80% and had intended to run it to 0 before changing. I changed it early at 20% and somehow that ended up being 2,999 miles instead of 5,000.

The previous oil was the SM formulation of the Service Pro 0w-20, which seemed to be a more stout oil. It had more calcium, sodium and ZDDP in it. I think I am done with the Service Pro 0w-20 once I use up my stash. The SN stuff doesn't impress me.

Also, she had far more short trips on this oil. Her job switched to one that was only about 3 miles from home, instead of 15.

Did you have a reason for the quart of Red Line, or was it just an odd quart you had laying around?
I'm not sure how much difference one quart out of six would make, but elevated metals in Red Line UOAs are not unusual.
There is common speculation that this is the result of Red Line cleaning up what previous oils had left behind.
Who knows?

I like mixing stuff just for the heck of it. It was going to be a pretty hot summer, so I thought I would thicken up the 0w-20 a bit and add some moly to it. I had done it previously in this car, on the OCI before the first UOA on it, but that time it was just a half quart mixed into the 5w-20 GTX that was in it when she bought the car.
