Back in May a thread listed a question about running acetone (a couple of ounces per 10 gallons of gas) for increased mileage. You answered part of my question in the thread, but does acetone act like a surface tension reducer and possibly give better fuel spray patterns and hence a better fuel burn? More fuel burned would mean lower emissions and better mileage in my eyes. Does acetone have any change in **** of doing this? I'm willing to experiment, but would like to know more info on the chemistry of the stuff and its reaction to gasoline. If it makes gasoline more "burnable" due to lower surface tension, can it do the same for diesels? Thanks in advance.

Acetone might lower surface tension but not by much.

As a temporary fuel system cleaner it's ok, but I wouldnt't run acetone constantly since it has too much of a plasticizer effect.

Try something tried and proven like FP.
