So, the consensus for just getting one firearm seems to come down to three. A handgun (38 revolver being the most popular), 12 gauge, and a 22 rifle.

If you had these three what would be the next last gun you would own? or would it being another of one of the above?

.308 rifle.

I would go for a high power rifle with reasonably priced ammo.

I'd pick a scoped rifle in one of the standard military offerings simply for ammo availability. Either in 223, 308, or 30-06. Leaning toward the 308.

I am thinking, the 30-06 due to easier access to ammo.

I'd get a job and buy more than just one more... But if it had to only be one more I'd go with a 308 and sell the POS .38 for .357.
