I have a tick/knock that occurs for the first 2 seconds only when starting a cold engine at cold temps (under 40F) that goes away after adding fuel system cleaner.

I thought it was a stuck lifter. Can a fuel system cleaner cure stuck lifters or is it something else? What else could I hearing that is now cured with a fuel system cleaner? Valve deposits?

Some fuel injectors make a nice tick that sound like loud "valve train" noises. While I'm not sure why a cleaner would change a noise - it is possible if some sticky gumbo was cleaned, I suppose.
