Current Inventory:

Pennzoil 5W30 Conv Motorcraft FL400S

Valvonine Next Gen (the non HM one) Purolator Pure One PL20195

Over the summer i will stock up on cheap oil and good filters, i may get the 2 for 10 on the PL20195 before that goes away, so all i have to worry about is the oil.

Photos to be taken soon

My stash 5 years ago. I still have over 100 bottles of Maxlife.

That stash photo will always be epic on this site, TallPaul - a Maxlife army, ready to serve!

:p

No need to horde like crazy. Oil sales are perpetual.
I have 5 jugs in my "inventory" and even that will last me quite some time. I didn't even bite on one of the recent sales that was a good price, because I have enough oil for a year as it is.

I do understand the itch though.

I horde like there's no tomorrow. I'll need the oil sooner or later, so i might as well buy it while it's on sale now. I'd post a pictures but it all doesn't fit in one shot...

That is because I simply heaved everything onto the floor to make room for the precious oil.

Steven_G: I meant that to be encouragement for you to horde like mad, but am afraid it instead may have hijacked your thread. Sorry.

The itch is hard to ignore, but like you I don't want to get more oil. With only one car to change oil on my 12 jug stash will be going slowly as is.

How long do oil last in original bottle? I still have a quart of Mobil1 from 4 years ago. Can it still be used?

I wonder how long it will take Tallpaul to use all his oil? Perhaps he goes through it quickly, but even with three vehicles I could never use half that oil in a reasonable amount of time.

I have a small cache. Whenever there's a really good sale I buy one oil change worth. I probably currently have enough oil and filters for a total of 4 or 5 oil changes.

I'm trying to use the 20 or so quarts I have on hand prior to buying any more oil...

Other places I'd rather spend my money...

That is some sweet oil porn you got there. I bet the wife thinks your nuts. Not the biggest valvolene fan but some good stuff there for sure. Whats in those pretty pink bottles? Looks like an additive of some sort.

I had to seriously restrain myself when I saw the $11.88 PYB at Walmart. I have more than enough for the time being.

Yes I'd advise trying to avoid hoarding oil, especially mediocre mineral oil (no offence). As mentioned it's alway going on sale unless you find some seriously dirt cheap oil which does happen on occasion, and one has to know the difference between a steal vs a regular sale price.
Even with a premium synthetic like the once highly touted green GC 0W-30. As good as it seemed at the time, technology doesn't stand still, and eventually it became surpassed but not before I had a accumulated a ton of it that I so longer wanted. (Managed to unload it all and actually make a profit).

So I wouldn't stock anymore oil than you expect to use in a year, you'll still run across deals that you "can't pass up" but years later wish you had.

I agree with Caterham.
Unless you can get the oil either dirt cheap on clearance or FAR, don't bother.
The whole point of a stash is to have a good selection of oils bought really cheap.
It isn't to accumulate oils sold at normal special or sale prices, since such pricing is always available.

you will have oil favorites. Once you have those favorites, you may have a hard time unloading your less than favorite oil. better to keep a low stash just knowing yourself well enough that you will want something shinier when it gets released in the future.
