Looks like I got too aggressive while installing a new Wix filter on a new Autolite 2100. This morning I commenced w/fine tuning the carb and I noticed a fuel drip from the fuel inlet; went to "gently" tighten the connection and it all went badly. A bigger fuel leak and, when I backed out the filter, thread shavings on the manifold.

Did I pretty much just flush $200 down the drain (ie, ruined carb)? Or is this something that can be fixed by a machine shop or carb specialist? I've read on a few other forums that a retap and Helicoil would fix it, but I'd rather get it done professionally (ie, right) the first time.

BTW: I've been beating myself up over this all morning, so please don't pile on. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

You can use an insert (not a helicoil) with anerobic sealer on the insets external threads.
Its probable best to leave it alone once its done without the filter being threaded into it, just a piece of line that you can attach an external in line filter.

If your not comfortable doing it have a machine shop perform the repair, it wont cost that much or take very long.

JB weld or JB quick weld will repair the fitting perfectly, but can't be taken apart again. [Heat from a propane torch will break the bond, but yank the carb and dump all fuel first]. Clean it well before the JB.
The line can be cut to install an inline filter .

If you permanently attach the filter to the carb, install another universal in-line filter between the carb and the pump.

I had that happen on a '79 Ford 351. I tapped it for a hose barb fitting and just used an inline filter in front of the carb. No problems ever with it.
BTW: I did vacuum out all the possible shavings as well as tap from the bottom with carb in vise.

Looks like there's plenty of "meat" to install a Helicoil if yours is like this picture.

What size are the threads ?

I believe those actually use a tapered thread... Earlier versions had a brass insert but toward the later '60s the design was cheapened, and threads for filter were cut directly into the carb body... I have a 4100(4V version) around here somewhere that used a inline fuel filter and fuel line connected to brass insert I mentioned...

Look at these from EZ Lok.
This is really easy. Get the tap started and tap with the carb turned downward so the chips fall out when the tap is removed, then vacuum it out.
Don't use grease as it will need cleaning and some will wash into the carb chips and all.

EZ Lok

This a better pic of what they look like although its probably not the size you need.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I ended up going w/the JB Weld "nuclear" option, adding a plastic inline filter at the pump to help keep the newly permanent one as clean as possible. So far, so good: No leaks and running pretty smoothly w/only the bench settings done.
