I did update to the current version. When I clicked the About Google Chrome it said I had been running version 19.0.1084.56 m and automatically started updating, now I have version 20.0.1132.47 m. I have tested a couple of web sites and so far I have not seen the green circle or the waiting for facebook.com tab. Computer seems to be working normally now. I will continue on clearing the history every so often now though and keep the chrome version up to date.

Thanks very much for all of your help on this. I appreciate it very much.

an edit here--I did find out how to disable the plug ins by using the privacy settings. I set it to "Block All Plug-Ins". I have not seen any plug-in tabs on the bottom of my screen since then. That should do it. Thanks again guys.

No offense intended toward you or anyone else but I was running MSE when I picked up that root kit back in March. I was also running MSE when I got hit with the Fake Anti Virus 2012 malware garbage back in December. I got that Fake AV junk when I went on imageshack.com to upload a picture of an oil change pan I had bought. I guess imageshack may be OK but on that day I got hit with that malware. As soon as I went on image shack that was when the fake AV started on my computer.

I got the root kit when I wen to a recommended site to download a zip file program. The site was brothersoft.com and I was trying to get a zip file program to help install a stripped down version of Itunes. I have since learned that brothersoft is a known haven for malware.

I got both of those malware infections on my old XP computer. Norton is the only AV security program I have ever used that actually alerted me to malicious garbage and kept me from going on the malicious site. I don't surf porn or go on any unsavory sites. I have learned the hard way that you need a good solid AV and security program. There are too many online crooks and dirtbag thieves that want to rip people off, and there are too many pimple faced punks that will damage your computer just because they can. My new computer came with a free trial of Norton. When it ended I used a paid version of AVG for a while, I liked Norton a lot better and it seems to me to be much more thorough and offer better protection.

My computer runs plenty fast for me, Norton really does not seem to be slowing it down at all. I run Chrome and Norton on my wife's laptop too, she has had no problems with it either. She has not had the waiting for facebook.com problem but now if it does happen we will know what to do. Thanks again everybody. I think we got it whooped this time.

MSE had nothing to do with "Fake Anti Virus 2012". You clicked on a popup inadvertently thinking it was your anti-virus reporting a problem. Its a clever trick they use to infect you. Make it look like an anti-virus warning popup. Using a browser with good popup and ad blocking protection would have prevented this problem. Your not alone, see a lot of infections from this.

Make sure all instances of antivirus are removed other than the one your using. Some anti-viruses like AVG allow Windows Defender on, others like MSE want it off. If you want to verify there's not an issue with chrome, install Firefox 12 for comparison. Only browser I've ever used since it was called Netscape, 20 years ago. Thousands of extensions, including Ad block +.

Contrary to what a lot of folks claim on the internet, Norton 2011 and on are actually excellent at preventing malware, and it is now VERY light on resources compared to just a few years ago.

I'd use it if I risked going to questionable sites, but since I am EXTREMELY careful about how I use the internet MSE does just fine.

I'd once again suggest that whenever one even has a SLIGHT suspicion about malware being on their PC that they do FULL scans with their primary security suite, and then the other good scanners like MWB, and SAS, BUT DO THIS IN SAFE MODE WITH THE MODEM DISCONNECTED from the PC. You always want to be off line and in safe mode, when scanning for best results.

Jimmy did you ever do full scans with Norton and MWB the way I suggested? You might be surprised with what you find.

Not yet, it has been a very busy day here today. I will try to scan tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

The problem persists. I have been putting up with it all week. It comes and goes, sometimes it is there and pages will not load, other times everything is fine. It shows up when I click on a link or thread in a forum, like BITOG or the Dodge Forum. It never shows up on secure sites, like my bank's web site.

The problem has yet to show up when I use any other browser. I have yet to see it in IE and I downloaded Firefox 12 last week and never saw it there either. I could not figure out how to adjust the size of the text and font in Firefox, otherwise I would be running it now and got rid of Chrome. I liked that Firefox browser a lot but the text is just too small for me to read. If anyone knows how to fix that, I am all ears. I tried the "No Squint" app but could not get it to work.

Yesterday I disconnected the ethernet cord from my computer so I was disconnected from the internet, then booted up in safe mode and ran full scans of MWB, SAS and Norton. None of them found anything, except SAS found a bunch of cookies stored. Here is the scan log from yesterday:

It all looks like ordinary cookies to me, but I don't have the computer knowledge to know whether any of it is malicious. SAS did prompt me that some of it was dangerous and said I needed to restart to get rid of all of it.

If anyone might know anything about this I appreciate the help. It's odd there is not much at all about it online. Chrome appears to be running a bit slow now too and sometimes says it can't find web sites. That happens most often with the Dodge Forum.

It may be important or not, I don't know but I never had this problem until last week when I connected our printer to my computer. It's just a cheap HP Desk Jet 1420, it had been connected to my wife's old desktop. We got her a laptop back in May and she was not using the printer so I hooked it up to my computer. The next day was when I first had this stupid "waiting for www.facebook.com" problem. When it shows up after I click a link or thread, I get the green spinning circle next to my mouse pointer arrow and down in the lower left corner of my monitor there is a tab that pops up, says "waiting for www.facebook.com" and the web page or link I am trying to see will hang up and not load at all, or it will load up anyway but the circle and tab are still there. If I click onto a different site altogether, the circle and tab will disappear, until I click another line of text or link to a thread.

This is really annoying. I appreciate it if anyone here can help me with it.

Edit: It also just now did it again when I hit submit on this post...

Another edit...I also have Ad Block Plus on this Chrome browser, the problem still persists.....

Thanks.

The problem happened again just now. I went into task manager and checked the system performance, it says CPU usage is anywhere from 1% to 8%, it varies and keeps changing constantly. Memory usage is 1.12 GB, computer has 4.0 GB of RAM.

Task manager also says I have

Physical Memory (MB)
Total 3570
Cached 2396
Available 2430
Free 67

Kernel memory
Paged 256
Non paged 67

System says it has 65 processes running

None of the stats I see on task manager show that anything on my computer is using any more resources than normal. At least that is what I think it says anyway. I think this is some kind of a problem with Chrome. I don't have this problem or any other problems at all with FF or IE. I do like the Chrome browser a lot and would like to be able to keep using it but if I can't get rid of this bug, then I will have to get rid of Chrome.

Thanks for your help.

Ive noticed that since every single web page can be tweeted and liked on facebook, there is a greater latency before the page is fully downloaded, even if all the real content is there...

I dont know that it is a plug-in as I hve none on my mac and see the stuff loading after the page comes in fully.

Open Firefox Browser
At the top of the screen...
Click Tools
Click Options
Click Content
In there, you will find options for changing text, font and color.

You also can go back to where you found "Tools' and click on "View"
There are options for changing Character Encodings

Thanks again. I got rid of Chrome, as much as I liked the browser I did not like the waiting for facebook error and slow web page loading/frozen screens. I also downloaded Firefox again, still can not change the text size, and last time I downloaded it I changed it but it would revert to the default tiny text when I changed web pages or restarted the browser.

I got rid of FF and am back to IE 9. No more slow pages, no more waiting for face book or any other cookies, internet sites or any of whatever else Chrome was stuck waiting for when I am online. Internet works very fast and I added Adblock Plus to keep the annoying ads to a minimum.

Maybe one day Chrome will publish a fix for that Facebook problem. Until then I am back on IE. Thanks for your help, I really wish I could have found and solved the problem but I am done pulling my hair out over it.

Well here is an edit, I hope this is the final post I have to put in this thread. I don't like just giving up on a problem, and I decided to try one more time with Chrome. First thing I did was download Chrome again. Then I did some testing with BITOG and a few other sites, so far the waiting for Facebook error has not ocurred again. I also went further into the list of extensions and lo and behold, what is there but an extension called Facebook Disconnect. It is supposed to keep Facebook from tracking me online. Maybe that will stop the Waiting for Facebook error. I also picked a few other add-ons like Ad Blocker Plus, Do Not Track Plus, The Better Pop-Up Blocker and a few others. I really had no idea there were that many add-ons and extensions in Chrome.

Time will tell for sure but I hope I got rid of that Facebook error. I do like the Chrome browser very much, it is by far the best browser I have tried. I am keeping my fingers crossed on this but so far everything is fine, no Facebook or other tabs at the bottom of my screen, no spinning green circles by the mouse pointer and my web pages are back to loading super fast.

Thanks once again for all of your help on this.

@Jimmy9190:

I would also give Opera browser while it doesn't excel in any one area it does very well in just about all, it is a very stable well rounded product, that seems to be overlooked. Give it a try and report back.

I use Opera and believe it is the best major offering around overall.

I've had issues too with getting the fonts to stay the size I choose, I selected the sizes manually and they do NOT work.

Well so far so good. I still have yet to see the Facebook error again and the font sizes on my bookmarked web sites have all stayed the way I set them yesterday. I really like the Chrome add-ons, no annoying ads and so far I am not getting anything in my email or any other ads trying to sell me something based on my web browsing and Google search history..I am sticking with Chrome for now, and hope I have no more issues with it. Thanks once again for all the help on this.

good idea...I've found over time chrome cache and history fills up and will slow a pc down to a crawl....but if the op has ie it may be another problem....in that case he should look into using Chrome

Well for what it's worth here is another update. Maybe this will be my final browser problem..I had more problems with my latest installation of Chrome and the extensions I chose. The Do Not Track and Face Book Blocker apps in Chrome also prohibited me from using other functions online. I tried watching a movie trailer before going out to the movies with my wife this past weekend, none of the trailers on Yahoo Movies would load up or play. When I tried to check the local stock on a printer I was interested in on Staples' web site, the window to view availability would not open. I had problems reading Yahoo News again. And Facebook would not open at all. I am not on Facebook much but I do check in with my daughter at least twice a day. I tried disabling the Facebook Tracker and Do Not Track add-ons, but then the old "waiting for www.facebook.com" error came right back. Chrome seemed to be very slow then too. Maybe I needed to empty the cache, I have no idea. Chrome worked for a while then it all of a sudden just seemed to have bugs in it again.

Sooo...all of these most recent problems prompted me to try Firefox again. I downloaded FF 12, added Ad Block Plus, Do Not Track, Web Of Trust and the No-Squint add-ons. I actually read the instructions for No-Squint this time and it is very simple to use. I went into the settings and set it to remember each web page's text size that I have adjusted. I don't remember seeing the instructions last time, but that was my error from not knowing anything about Firefox...

I have been tinkering with FF for a couple of hours and I think it is better than Chrome. Its plugins and add-ons seem to work very well. I can watch movie trailers and read the news again. In my tests, I did have to allow the Staples site in the Do Not Track app in order to check their inventory. I don't know why that is, but it is not a problem.

Everything here on FF seems to work great, the browser is fast and laid out very well and the graphics look great too. I will try this one for a while and see how it goes. So far, so good. I am very happy with FF.
