My 87 F250 has a Sterling rear axle and a Warner T19 manual transmission.

I want to change the oil in these.

The owners manual does not have weights. The local Chevron lube supplier, Napa, Oriley and the Ford dealer can't tell me what to use.

THe spec for the trans is "Standard transmision lube" #D8DZ-19C547-A Ford spec #ESP-M2C83C.

The rear axle needs EOAZ-19580-A OR ESP-M2C154-A

There are no other specs in the book.

BTW it has a Detroit Locker in the rear and Detroit says no ynthetic oil with their lockers.
Help!!!!

I found this...Transmission oil on a quick Google search...it appears to be normal 75W-90 gear oil?

Probably not the brand that you may use, but it should give you a few clues?

No need to feel that way; believe me I have had my fair share of such occurrences. Hopefully, you can cross reference those oils to something that you can find or prefer

This is what you want:

Chevron Delo Gear Lubricant ESI SAE 80W-90 is the first nonsynthetic gear oil approved for the extended warranty program of Dana Spicer heavy duty axles and is an approved lubricant for drive axles under the Eaton Roadranger E500™ Extended Warranty Program. Chevron Delo Gear Lubricants ESI are also approved for the extended drain specifications of both ArvinMeritor and Mack.

A 500,000 Mile Drain Isomeritized Group III that meets your nonsynthetic requirement.

PS While your their pick up some Chevron RPM Synthetic (Group IV PAO) 75W90 for the trans.

I usually post the Amsoil info because it shows weights and applications. Not because of any Amsoil agenda......

Just keep in mind that this is quarter century old manual.
So I assume that you have the 6.9 engine? Appears that a manual trans gear lube would work? I would think that synthetic would be OK.

Maybe something like this that's gear lube weight product made specifically for manual transmissions.

I went to the Amsoil store today and told them what I have. They did not want me to run the 75w90 in my trans. Claimed that it would damage the Soft metals in the trans. They recomended this fluid instead since this is rated MT-1. I bought 4 qts.

I've heard the same thing about my 87 Cherokee trans. I think that there was a brand, not sure which one, maybe valvoline.. Called synchromesh. Spec'd to work with the soft metals (brass?). It worked great in my jeep trans (maybe an ax-15?) god I can't remember ****, getting old.

This is what I used. Transmission went to over 215k, and was still working great when sold. Do not believe anything I say, just use it to start your investigation.
Pennzoil® Synchromesh Fluid - Technical Data Sheet

Plain old 80w90 will work great in the rear and SAE 50 motor oil is what the T18/T19 originally called for. I don't know if the specified oil was changed by the 80's, but that's what they called for in the 60's and 70's.
