Carefully Balancing TBN & Low Ash

OEMs and lubricant manufacturers have known for many years that there is a connection between the level of sulfated ash contained in the chemistry of mineral–based engine oils and the probability of deposit formation.

However, sulfated ash is a natural by product of the additives required to control deposits, neutralize acids (with TBN) and manage soot. Castrol Hypuron maintain this careful balance between low sulfated ash levels and high TBN levels, and use special ashless TBN boosters to assist in this balance.

The progressive formulation of Castrol Hypuron not only meet the specifications and ideal performance requirements of these OEM's, but also provide extended drain capacity due to Castrol's Hypuron high TBN levels.

I was looking for the SA on Castrol Edge but they don't show it.

I'll be curious to see the Tbn retention of the low sa oils.

I suspect were going to see euro grade gasoline in order to meet emissions requirements. That's a good reason to use low ash oil since TBN can be lower and emissions systems will function properly.
