Is there a problem mixing different brands of motor oil in my car engine so long as the mixed brands are the same viscosity (5W30) and API service grade (SM) ?

No problem. You can even mix different viscosity grades if you want.

Go for it. In one of my atv's, i have a mix of M1 4T 10w-40 (synthetic), valvoline 4T 10w-40 (dino), and shell rotells T4 10w-30 (HDEO). Runs great!
Do it up! Just have a general idea of what grade you want.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep mixing the leftover 0.9 quarts from those 5.1 quart jugs.

I'm actually using T6 5w40 right now; seems to be working great! The oil is already a bit dark, so I'm sure it's been working on cleaning things up over the last 5-600 miles or so. Way too short of an oil interval, but I am curious to get something a tad lighter since I don't have a track driven twin turbo.
M1 0w40 has been recommended actually. Right now I'm trying to figure out some oils that may work from Motul (either 0w30 X-lite or 5w30 X-max seem to be the choice so far)
I am going to install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge soon, hopefully this week, so I may get the 0w40 M1 since it's readily available at Wal Mart.
