Kids BMX bike worth restoring?

The other thing I need to figure out is how to rig-up some kind of chainguard. The kid's pants have gotten stuck/torn a couple of times now. I found this one on Amazon and may give it a try.

That looks awesome, much like a time warp. As for the chain guard i see the mounting points i made one up when i was 12 with just a cut off wheel, rattle can, some jb weld, and maybe a drill, ooo and of course the very first chain guard i found on garbage day. I'm sure you come up with some kind of homemade chain guard even better than what I came up with lol.

Steel wool and some WD-40 should clean it up.

Used a Brillo pad and cleaned it up today. Worked great!

funny, when I was a kid, the 1st thing to come OFF the bike was the chainguard!
I was more prone to get shoelaces caught, not pants. nothing tucking it into a sock couldn't fix. I never liked the noise of the chains rattling on the chainguard.

Haha same here! Chainguard and reflectors were the first things to go bye bye.
