Here’s a (high-level) oil history for the service life of my long-time commuting car. Just for tribological giggles. No UOA ever conducted.

Car: Honda Civic EX

Year: 1994

Engine: D16Z6 (4 cylinder VTEC)

Miles on Car: 435,000

Car acquired: New October 1993 (1 mile on odometer)

Oil Used:
1994-2005: Mobil 1 5W-30 almost exclusively
(One or two dino changes during interval)
2005-2009: Royal Purple 5W-30
2009-present: Variety, including Mobil 1 HM, Valvoline Maxlife Blend,
Pennzoil Platinum, PYB (all 5W-30)

Driving conditions: Urban commuting (Washington DC area)

Operating condition: Good. Slight head gasket leak. Daily driver

Mfg’r-stated OCI: 7500 miles. (Has gone 10,000+ on RP, M1)

Oil consumption: About 1 quart per OCI

Average mileage: 34.5 (last 24 months)

Any plans to retire the car soon?

Congrads on the high mileage.

Thanks for posting.

>400k ! that is some serious mileage. Congrat on that, planning to retire it any time soon?

Wow.
Can't argue with the service you've gotten out of this car.
You've doubled the miles I've had out of my two best Hondas, which I thought had done pretty well.
Good for you!

Thanks guys. The car still goes like a top, no plans to retire it anytime soon. And still good on gas.

Tried to keep good-quality oil (as I understood it back then!) in it from the start, and used good filters, usually Purolator P1s or Mobil 1s. But I think the credit for the longevity goes to the magicians, at Honda. They know how to make a cheap, simple, but pretty darn near bullet-proof engine.
