2011 Chevy Cruze
1.4L with turbo
Mobil 1 5W-30 (not EP)
9,865 miles on oil sample
14,865 mile in engine
7% left on the OLM
UOA was done at Blackstone Labs
No make up oil added

The mileage put on the car since the last UOA (1/8/12) has consisted of a lot more city driving than usual. There were a lot of very short drives in the winter where the engine only warmed up halfway. It was more like 60-70% city miles. Normally I have to travel for work so this car sees very little city driving and 95% of the miles are 3+ hr drives. The sample was taken using a pump so the oil tested is still in the car.

As for the TAN that I have been adding out of curiosity, well I forgot to request it on this sample so I don't have a number. The OLM is now at 4% (15,176 mi) and every time I start the car it tells me to change the oil soon. I am planning on changing the oil as a 10k OCI already seems crazy. I have some free oil changes from the dealer to use so my next oil will be ACDelco. I have heard this oil does not live up to the OLM readout even though it is dexos1 so I will be doing UOA on it.

Cool information - looks like your car is breaking in nicely and the M1 oil is standing up well.

Looks like very consistent wear metal readings from the lab. Tough to argue about the validity of Blackstone measurements looking at these three tests.

Looks like M1 has a nice margin of safety compared to the OLM. Do you know what dino oil or other synthetics have been suggesting compared to the OLM?

This performance impresses me for a 1.4L Turbo. I'm surprised the OLM allows such high intervals for such an engine.

I don't remember the exact numbers for the ACDelco syn blend but it wasn't very impressive. Looks like Quaker State Ultimate Durability should get the same results as M1.

You are correct in your statement about the AC Delco (DEXOS) oil. I tested it at 5500 miles in my 1.4 cruze and it was close to being shot with a TBN of only 1.6 left. For sure don't follow the OLM while using the dealers oil, it will not make it!

Thanx for sharing!

Looks pretty good. Would be nice to see the metals come down a bit as the engine matures but I would say not bad at all for a young engine.

It looks like there could be a coolant leak but I am going to wait and see how it trends. I would also like to see the metals start to trend down.

I'm starting to like the reports produced by these little turbo engines. Nice report, potassium is trending down.

In the 1st and 2nd reports, TAN read higher than TBN.

TBN..... 3.6.... 3.2
TAN..... 5.4.... 4.8

At what point is TAN too high and the oil should be drained?

I'd like to know also.
