My new Troy Bilt push mower is powered by a 190cc Briggs & Stratton 725EX (Flat Head). It produces approximately 3.75HP.

The owners manual states that it needs SAE 30 from 40*F to +100*F. 10w30 from 0*F to 100*F with consumption occurring above 80*F. Also, a synthetic 5w30 from -22*F to +100*F.

My plan is to run Rotella Triple Protection 10w30 year round. I don't plan on mowing when it is -22*F and I can't believe oil consumption will be an issue with a HDEO 10w30 if they allow a 5w30 across the entire temperate range.

OCI is 50 hours which means 1 OCI per year.

Any thoughts?

I would just run an HD 30. What does your mower take 1/2 QT? Its a plain air cooled engine with no oil filter and no pressurized lubrication.

I like Amsoil 4 Stroke oil myself.

I think I have that same engine. Mine is on a new Toro. It is 190cc, but I'm not sure of the exact engine model. No sticker or anything on it.

Mine has similar temp ranges, but you can also use regular 5W30 when below I think 50.

I plan on using my free after rebate G-oil for the next several years in it after I change out the first fill of the supplied 30 wt. in a month or so.

I use Rotella T6 5W-40. It's fairly inexpensive, and a good choice for these air cooled engines. I especially like it in our pressure washer, since it's pretty much running at 100% load all the time.

Yes, 20 ounces.

SF, SG, SH, & SJ

I am thinking about just running a Grp III 10w30 in it or possibly T6 5w40.
