Here are the first 4 analysis for my 96 Land Cruiser. It has the gas 4.5L 1FEFZ motor. I'm the 3rd owner. The engine is stock except for an oil filter adapter I added. It lets me use a larger oil filter than the OEM Toyota filter.

  • Blackstone Labs
  • About 70% short trips in city; 30% highway
  • Oil & filter were changed at the same time
  • filters were either WIX or equiv in Napa Gold
  • 8 qt. capacity crank case
  • 0 qts make up oil

The 92800 mile oil change/analysis I used Quaker State oil (kind of dumb in hindsight). I switched to Chevron Supreme for the 95300 oil change. Interesting to me is that it had the highest moly reading so far. The latest two changes I used Delo 400 10W-30. (I got the 10W-30 from a distributor).

Does this all look ok?

Took forever to type this in. Wish we could post links to a copy of the pdf file!

Cheers,

Based on these 4 UOA's and the fact that you have a 8 quart sump I think it would be safe to say that you could extend your OCI a bit. Try a sample at 4k then bump to 5k. 8 quarts every 3k is kinda overkill/waste in my opinion, but its your toyota.
Another perfecto UOA from a Toyota engine. I am totally hooked on their vehicles!

Holy crickey! That is a low wearing engine you have there! Everything looks phenomenal! One thing: You could likely extend your oil change interval to triple what you're doing now with Delo 10w-30 (a TBN reading would really confirm this). They don't lie about Landcruisers being built tuff.

I love these landcruisers. The body and frame will fall off of this inline six before it had any problems....beautiful.

My neighbor has one of these and it is a pleasure to work on. Big drain plugs for front and rear diffs, the grill comes off with about 6 screws exposing the trans cooler lines to enable pumping out a gallon at a time for a fluid exchange. Plus the trans takes good old dex III.

I love these trucks. Nice UOA.. I'm not surprised. With an 8qt sump and UOA's like this, I'd be going 6k miles OCI's and see how the UOA looks.....going from there upward. Your truck might be a good candidate for setting the long dino oil UOA record.

By the way, I'm not sure what you mean by needing a bigger filter. If I recall correctly, doesn't your inline 6 take that Ford FL1A/Fram PH8A (not that you'd use a fram) filter? Those are pretty large already.

There is a typo on P level on 3/30/06, but rather than that, fenomenal.

It's so sad to see the rare species of 10W30 delo400 destroyed at the silly rate of 3000miles/3months!
There should be a law against this.

BTW, finely dino XW30 that doesn't shear. I wish I could buy some here.

Where are you finding the 10W-30 Delo, Scott?

I have always wanted to try it in my Cruiser, but have never been able to find it.

Makes me green with envy that I don't own a TLC, maybe in next life, who knows, I do use Delo 400 on my G Wagen.

Nothing's being destroyed. Recycling centers are now hauling used motor oil to refineries where it's dumped in along with virgin petroleum for a ride through the hydrocraker trains. What comes out is water-white, clear, Group II or Group III base oils depending on the processing severity.

Not exactly true there Ray, since a certain amount of energy is used to make the oil in the first place....From that perspective, frequent oil changes do result in more fossil fuels being consumed in the refining process.

I have no idea how much energy is expended in making PAO's compared to conventional lubes, but I'm sure you'll tell me...

I'm planning to extend the OCI based on all the input (thanks). It is nice to be extending it rather than shortening it

.

I was paranoid after buying the truck so that's why the short OCIs. It turned out to be a good idea since early on I wasn't using very good oil (didn't know better). I found out later there was some fuel dilution and low viscosity probably from short trips and in-city driving. Seems to be better now.

Oh yeah,
I picked up the delo 400 at a distributor in the SF bay area. It probably helps that a Chevron refinery is nearby.

The distributor had to special order it - I bought 10 cases!
