Hi.
I drive a BMW e39 with this automatic tranny (A4S 310R).
I did an oil change 2000 miles ago, I put Castrol Transmax DIII but since then when I drive in D and when I stop on red light f.e. the engine almost dies for a second, rpm drops down and then goes up to normal. Shifts are smooth, but it takes long to engage first and reverse.

What I should do? Can I try another oil, Mobil ATF 320?

What year is the BMW?

If you use Castrol Transmax DIII and your car doesn't have a DIII gear selection, then it is not compatible. Hey, just messin' with you.

This sounds more like a fuel pump or vacuum (induction area)issue than a tranny issue.

Any CEL codes?

BMW is 8/98.
No vacuum leak, no codes...
This has nothing to do with fuel pump.

I guess you could change it out for a non-multi spec fluid and see what happens.

a 14 year old Bimmer.. Seems like it could have all kinds of sensors and electrical issues just waiting to bite you.

Everything is checked.

And all this was fine before that oil change.

Did you do a power flush or a simple pan drop and refill?

Did you change the oil filter/screen?

I once had the little rubber seal on the stem of the filter get cocked and it acted erratic.

Pan drop and refill.
New oil filter.

What happens if the tranny is overfilled?

You can get a lot of foaming which entrains air in the oil circuit such that the valves and servos function erratically.

Too low a level and the tranny usually hangs in a lower gear or goes into a limp mode.

So what you think is the best thing to do?
To try with other oil?

i would put it up on a lift and check any lines to see if they were kinked and check any electrical connections going to tranny.

If not obvious signs of that, drop pan and check filter seal.

If filter seal ok, replace fluid to proper level.

I can't see where any DexIII fluid by itself would cause a major change in performance, regardless of brand.

I did an oil change today, with filter.
I put that Mobil ATF320 and now it works OK. I drove around 10 km and it looks OK so far...

If you start to have those issues after you did something on yor tranny then you should know where to check for it.

P.S. Amsoil ATF is the best oil in the world.

^I think this is my problem on my Civic currently. Almost wants to stall, causes rough idle, the rev/rev symptom occasionally. Alright, if I clean the IAC and symptoms go away, but then it comes back does that mean I need a new IAC?

Not trying to get OT, but I've got a thread about this in the Mechanical/Maintenance section and would like some help.

What I realy want to know as well is why the CEL isn't flagged?
