We have a full size chevy van with alot of miles. The oil gets changed every 3-4000 miles and I am looking for advice on which oil is best. Last oil change, the Quik Change place suggested and put in Valvoline 5W30 Maxlife Motor Oil. Its VERY expense and I am curious if that was a good choice or overkill? How bad if we just put in whatever is cheap?

thanks for the help!

I always say don't mess with a good thing. If you using conventional oil, I and others on this site think Pennzoil Yellow Bottle is the best bang for you buck. If you haven't been using high mileage oil and you engine isn't burning oil, I wouldn't use that as it has seal conditioners( swelling ) in it. Once you start that you pretty much need to keep using it. If your burning some oil just go up to a 10W/40.

use 5w30 conventional oil in the winter and 5w30 high mileage in the summer.. any oil that is sm or sn is good oil max life is really good also its just a little pricey
