I recently mixed some leftover Shell V-Power fuel system cleaner (blue bottle) with Red Line SI cleaner in an equal, 50/50 mix.

After about a day or so it had a VERY strong, ammonia-like smell to it.

Tribologists/chemists; is this a reation since one is PEA based (RL), and one is not (Shell), or something else??

Also, would this be harmful to use?

Why would you mix them? SL1 is an excellent fuel system cleaner and well liked here on this site. V-Power does not really do anything but put a hole in your wallet.

I had a couple of ounces of each left in their own bottles, so I mixed them.

But YES, from now on it is ONLY either SI, or the Amsoil PI as far as FSC/UCLs go.

If the OP used SI-1 with Shell gasoline, he would be doing the same thing. If he used SI-1 with Chevron gasoline he would be mixing it with Techron.

It might not do anything better than SI_1, but it is better than throwing it in the garbage.
