corolla door auto lock

I have a 2003 Corolla LE. The doors will automatically lock when the car is placed in drive, but they do not unlock automatically in park. Can they be programmed to auto unlock when the car is placed in park? I did look in the owners manual and could not find anything that would suggest the locks can be reprogrammed, but this behavior seems odd. Do all Toyota cars keep the doors locked when you stop?

^That is the process described in the 9thgen owners manual, it should work.

I have 2003 Corolla S with AT and haven't noticed automatic door locking. I need to check this.
