Well, at least they don't blindly require you to change it every 3K miles like some others. They just say to follow the mfg recommendations for oil change interval. That's a step in the right direction.

Isn't heavy duty diesel tractor trailer type applications. IE big rigs and semis. I doubt this applies to passenger trucks/suvs with a big diesel in them. For semis 500,000 is a walk in the park.

The chances of them saying the engine wore out because the oil used would be slim to none. They would just say well that was the typical lifespan for that part. oil was not the cause of failure. I wouldn't put much faith in it.

Interesting that they warranty the engine for 200k more miles with full synthetic.

Up to 10 years or 500,000 miles (whichever is first) – if you exclusively use Shell Rotella® T6 full synthetic engine oil.

Up to 10 years or 300,000 miles (whichever is first) – if you exclusively use Shell Rotella® T Triple Protection 15W-40 or Shell Rotella® T5 synthetic blend 10W-30, 10W-40 engine oils.

Well see I read this article and I have no clue on what it really means but it sounds good

Most truck engines come with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty and 5 year / 500,000 mile internal components warranty.

Ive had a CAT 3406E go 1.4 million miles before the nose on the crank broke (due to faulty damper).

Section D2 states:

This Shell Rotella Lubrication Limited Warranty only covers Class 2c – Class 8 vehicles with heavy-duty diesel engines used in on-road applications with a gross vehicular weight of 80,000 pounds or less that you own or lease, and which have been driven 50,000 miles or less when you first used an eligible Shell Rotella® engine oil and whose manufactured date is within the last 24 months of your first use of an eligible Shell Rotella® engine oil (“Eligible Vehicle”).

In other words, you can't get this warranty on cars and pickup trucks.

You could bet on it.

Asked them about the warranty on motorcycles and here is their reply:

Rotella T6 does have the JASO MA and JASO DH2 approvals and is
suitable for use in motorcycles. The Rotella T6 warranty is
unaffected.

Shell Technical

Hi,
these types of Warranties have been around for many many years in the Trucking Industries around the World. Engine and Drive Line Warranties can go way beyond the Shell one quoted above

Personally I never took any up as the standard Warranty was always generous and I never suffered any issues that the Manufacturer refused to cover. I usually sold my Trucks at around 1m kms although I kept three out to around 1.5m kms! I never rebuilt an engine, gearbox or diff. One diff insert was replaced FOC at around 800kkms due to a Service Supplier's error!!!

One thing to remember for this warranty is the oil has to be the cause of the engine damage. And 99.9% of the time it's not. I'm gonna apply for it because I been doing a lot of researching on oil for my bike and the Rottela T6 fits the bill perfect for years to come.
