What will be the best oil for this engine ?
It is the engine M62B44TU.
I want to pour oil from Amsoil.
Can I use Amsoil?
Auto sometimes goes very fast highway 200-250km / h for several hours
All recommend a 10W-60 oil, but do not be too thick ?

Does anyone have such a car with a big, high mileage ?

Regard

The AEL 5w-30 came out not too many months back. They do make a 5w-40 Euro oil as well AFL.

It says to use the 5w-30 Euro oil. AEL I prefer Amsoil over any other oil. No reason you can't use it.

I would use what the manual, or Amsoil recommends. If you uses oil go up a grade. Simple as that.

60 wt is really thick oil. Normally used for racing/high performance vehicles. 50wt is normally the thickest oil anybody uses.

I believe the 10w60 is only spec'd for the S62, which is the engine that was in the M5 and makes 100HP more than your M62 does.

I would call BMW or visit the dealer and find what the recommend.

If you use the oil selector on Mobil's website, it shows Mobil 1 0w40 for your application. I think that oil would be an excellent choice.

You don't want the 10w60. And you don't have to use Amsoil, though you certainly can. Mobil 1 0w40 should be sufficient, or Castrol Syntec 0w30. If you can find Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra 5w40 locally, those would be acceptable too.

Mobil 1 0w40 is usually a very good choice for most European cars.

Amsoil makes great products and I have used them extensively, but at the end of the day they don't have the R&D budget that Exxon/Mobil does, nor do they work with the manufactures like they do.

How much do you want to bet that when BMW, Mercedes, or Porsche engineers are working on a new engine they consult the Mobil engineers on oil specs?

Not sure of a couple things:

1) Why people on this site try to talk others out of Amsoil all the time.

2) Not 100% sure AEL is the best recommendation here. I state that because I'm not sure a super low saps, low viscosity oil is what is recommended. I would use Amsoil AFL. It's a light 5W-40.

Check this out: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Owner/SyntheticEngineOils.aspx

For sure it's not a "M" vehicle.

My general thought was that it took AFL 5w-40 oil. But the Amsoil application guide says 5w-30 AEL.

What does the manual say? That would be good to know.......

I would think that the AFL would work fine. If the manual says 5w-30 euro oil is OK I might try it to see how it acts on consumption etc if it was my car. Especially if I drove it easy.
If you drive hard maybe the AFL is better because it's heavier.

Well he does say in his post he'll be driving 200/250km an hour, so thats 124 to 155 miles an hour.
