Hello, my "new" '06 SLK 350 required trans repair, and the "rebuild" required 6qts of new ATF. Having no knowledge of any previous trans fluid replacement, my question is this; the new "fluid" has a different "part #" than that listed in the MB Service Products booklet, NEW = 001-989-68-03-13 GEAR OIL , OLD = 001-989-45-03-10 Automatic Transmission Fluid .
I can only assume there is no compatibility issue, but does this mean I can use a different MB Recommended fluid at a later date? MB has expanded their recommended list to include several "new" fluids; http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/236.12_en.html .

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

The 722.9xx (NAG2) 7G transmission uses A001 989 68 03 9 fluid the old specification was MB 236.12 ATF 3353 (A 001 989 45 03) and it has been superseded by
MB 236.14 ATF (001-989-68-03-13)

The new fluid supersedes the old specification that is listed in the MB Service Products booklet and you will not have any compatibility issue.

From now on you should use fluid meeting the MB 236.14 ATF specification.
