Is there a rough estimate of how to blend gasoline? Say you have 1 gallon of 87 octane and 1 gallon of 100 octane. If you mix them, what is the resulting octane? There is a difference of 13 "points" in the octane rating so does that mean you would halve that and end up with a "93" octane mixture?

(I know, I know, SOMEBODY on here is going to say just buy 93... For the sake of discussion, let's run with the blending idea)

I have found just 2-3 gal of 93 premium on top of a tank the regular will keep most 87 engines from pinging or pulling timing if the 87 in your area is running a bit "weak". Dont worry about the math but instead how the engine responds - the math is moot.

It's boringly simple now.

Back in the days of leaded (remember, it was 1987 for me), the RON increase curve for lead meant that 50:50 97 octane "super" and 97 octane Unleaded got you about 98.5 RONs.
