The D.O.T. won't allow the chasing of a thread on a hub. I had a Dayton type truck wheel loosen up (the one that looks like a star shaped hub with clamps holding the rim onto it) and hammered the stud loose and had to replace the whole hub, as the shop wouldn't retap the hole that had the last 2 threads a little flattened. I imagine you'd have similar issues with the bolted on wheel in an automotive application.
