Fuel prices in Europe

Taken in Austria. Per liter Euro exchange rate 1.40.
The Premium diesel fuel in Europe is beginning to service.

After the math this comes out to about twice what we pay...

We're paying $1.39 (Oz) for regular, and over $1.50 for diesel...filled up my Nissan for $100 again the other day.

I paid $7 or $8 a gallon in Sweden about 8 years ago. Cost well over $100 to fill the tank in a Saab 9-5.

You are completely right. I paid the equivalent of $7.567 per US gallon today for diesel. My car is rated at 57 mpg US and 35 mpg US for city traffic. No idea what my actual fuel mileage is.

It would be a bonanza if prices were below 5.

They also pay a lot more in taxes to get those prices.

European drive about 10,000 mi/year, but mileage is much better than US, on average are much better drivers than US so they know how get better mileage and manage traffic, and drive stick shift cars (and know to use them), and smaller, less truck-like cars.

Europe
10,000 mi/35 mpg = 286 gallons * $8/gal = $2288 per year

USA
15,000 mi/15 mpg = 1000 gallons * $4/gal = $4000 per year

Japan
6,000 mi/25 mpg = 240 gallons * $5.50/gal = $1320 per year

Sorry but where are these mpg numbers coming from? 15 mpg in the US?

I hope everyone on here realizes that the UK gallon is 20.1% larger than the american gallon. So, for example, a UK car rated at 42 MPGs is the same as an American car rated at 35 MPGs.

Of course we realise and all my conversions are correct. In Imperial Gallons my car is rated at a whiff under 69 MPG inter-urban driving and 42.8 MPG urban driving. (4.1, 6.6 and 5 litres per hundred Km).

Now, I may not routinely go near 57 MPG but I can better 50 MPG out of town as sure as eggs is eggs and I'm sure I can average above 45.

I'm going to be paying some outrageous gas bills this summer in Germany.
My car burns 18-20 ltr/100km,even my sons toy Ford Ka burns 7.

Europe calculates vehicle MPG (liter) with a different test cycle then the US EPA. The numbers are not directly comparable.

Its litres per 100 Km,separate city and highway numbers.
Its doesn't seem that much different.
