Since there exist no statistically relevant data, there is no "reality" to contradict MY opinion. And citing the absence of folks clamouring here about blown engines is not significant and is a straw man argument. So none of us have data, just a few personal data points good and bad. I am happy you are doing well with Mobil 1 in your fleet, and I would NEVER recommend, say, BP would perform better for you

They're selling 0w-10 doped to meet 0w-20 SAE designation. Much like all engines running on 5w-30 were really running 5w-20 after so many miles ..hence Ford already knew that the stuff worked. It just wasn't marketed as a 5w-20 on the shelf or when it was put in the engine.

This is "in field testing for future BOLD validation". The "win" is already in the can.

Yep. If a 2.4 HTHS wasn't suitable for an engine, a manufacturer wouldn't be spec'ing a 2.6 HTHS oil--it's a given that it's going to shear to a degree. Haven't both Ford and Honda been testing oils down to 2.0 HTHS?
 
With the Group II/II+ bases, how 'blended' can you get before making a 'border line' 0w20 when blended with Group III, III+, IV or V base oils at whatever ratio needed?

Would a 100% Group III oil perform better/worse then a 65:35 split of Group IV/II oil, or 60:40 Group IV/II+ or 50:50 Group 5/II blend?

Is it driven by profit margin or consumer expectations for a cheaper 0w20? What performance sacrifices were made?

Balance supply of base oils and cost of those base oils with the consumer product demand and... any ratio needed to get the required 'job done' will be whipped up.

Also, seems to be a lot performance difference in available viscosity modifiers and viscosity index improvers. Its not all about base oil.
