Love to see these extended OCIs!

Why not continue to use it? Look at the numbers. Still a viable fluid, that's for sure. Add-pack decent; contamination low; vis in good shape. What's not to like?

Yet MORE evidence that oil has no idea of how old it is ...

Oil and filter are still in service and I'll retest at the 3 year mark to see where we are. The duty profile for this engine has changed-it is now a second engine for fire calls but still primary rescue for tools, jaws, etc.. It will probably accumulate 50-60 hrs a year from now on, I'm guessing.

As far as variances go given the spread of time between these samples I would expect some variances especially in the additive metals which tend to be less repeatable anyway. Wear metals have a much tighter trend. I'm comfortable leaving the oil in.

Thanks, REDDOG

Thanks REDDOG! I'll add it to my evidence locker. Are you gonna try for four if three is OK? I had to shut down mine at three due to soot but with better filtration, I might have tried for more. This is an especially awesome result considering there was no makeup oil. My three year had several makeup quarts... but then it's a tired (8300 hour) tractor that was (previously) neglected and lives in a barn.

As long as everything looks good I'll keep it in service. Even at the 4 year mark it would probably have between 250 and 300 hrs on it.

Also, though this is a bit OT, I'd sure like to have more of these 2003 era CAT engines! This has been a great unit and I honestly hate all the emissions crud on the newer diesels.
