I bought a used 98'E-350 15 passenger van. It has a 5.4 V-8.I was told it took 6 qts. of 5W20. When under the hood I saw a facctory sticker that specified 5W30 oil. Also written near the oil fill cap was"7 qts." Anybody familiar with this situation? Thanks

When I had a 1999 vintage 5.4L, it took about six litres, if I recall correctly. 5w-30 was specified at the time. I know that Ford back speced a lot of engines to 5w-20. I'm not sure how far back that went, but others here will certainly know.

and allow oil to flow into crankcase.

5w30, 6.5 quarts. Frankly, in this motor, I like Castrol 0w30 (GC). GC, and an FL820S, every 7.5k for normal driving, and call it good. 15 heavyweight folks, and towing the marching band trailer, I would cut it back to 5k OCI.

Original fill was 5w30, backspecified to 5w20. Listed capacity is 6 quarts, generally will take 6 to 6.5 - you'll have to find out.

If it were me, I'd stick with a quality 5w30, a motorcraft FL-820s filter and call it a day.

Thanks for all of the info.It sure helps. I will use 5w20 Napa synthetic in the cold months and 5w30 napa syn in the warm months. Will use 6.1 qts and monitor via the dipstick. I always use Napa Gold filters.Change every 4000M.
