International DT466 with a bit of an.....issue.

Nope, defective injector nozzle. Only one of the 6 orifices was allowing fuel through. Works like a water jet cutter when that happens.

No, when diesel nozzles stream or dribble, it will gleefully slice or melt through a piston. Diesels run stoichiometrically 'lean' all the time.

I love international, but I think the origional DT466's were the best. The DT466E's were pretty good, but as they get newer, and emissions more stupid, the engines get worse.

Diesels and rich or lean mixtures are opposite a gas engine. A gas engine will run a long time if it's running too rich. A diesel will burn a piston in a few seconds if it's getting too much fuel.

A lean running gas engine will burn a piston quickly if running too lean. If a diesel is running lean then it's idling.

^ Yup. Running a diesel too rich makes lots of heat (and black smoke). If you take it too far, or an injector sprays too much fuel directly onto a piston, then things start melting.
