Obviously it didn't hold, you can see where it failed and air escaped on the top of the patch.
That was a good repair idea........

Sidewall puncture like this is not repairable, period. Otherwise, it will blow sooner or later.

WalMart tire. What is the story behind this one?
wow, funny thing is I had a 2 inch gash right on the corner of a tire, where the sidewall and tread meet, repaired and drove home from Vegas in 100+degree heat.

I've used wood screws with silicon on the thread to plug a hole in a tire before but it doesn't work on a sidewall. Lasts forever in the tread though if done right. I wore out a tire that was plugged that way once. Used it until it was bald and that screw was still in there.

If you were coming back on a Sunday evening I can believe that. The average speed for that stretch of I-15 is about 2 mph most of the way.

Side wall patches just don't hold. If you have to keep the tire put a tube in it. If the hole is really large, patch it from the INSIDE and use a tube!
