Like on a boat sterndrive - which is a splined shaft iside a coupler (no water is involved)
could you use EP trailer wheel bearing grease on it rather than the Merc "spline" grease?
Not talking about gimbal grease (tho I have some of that)
Seems gimbal grease and HP trailer wheel bearing grease would cover the grease spectrum and since they are used on fast rotating bearings be better than spline grease????. Spline move only when triming in and out?

Ive used wheel bearing grease to pack the splines of a two piece driveshaft on my truck, has worked fine for me.

Your results may vary.

I've always used a moly fortified grease, in particular plain 'ol Castrol LMM and had great results over the years on splines, uni joints and ball joints.
I never had to replace a uni, spline, tie rod end or king pin in my old F100 (F150 in Nth America) which had about 500000km on it when I retired it.

Rick.
