Hello everyone!

First I will write about my car:
- it's Mercedes AMG C30 diesel 3.0 2003. Base engine is 2.7 CDI but AMG drilled it to 3.0l and add water intercooler. Turbocharger is bigger then 2.7CDI.

From the begining it was driving on Castrol SLX professional Longtec 0W30. After 100k km mileage I wrote mail to AMG Germany and ask what kind of oil I should use. They wrote to me that should be xW40. After that I was talking about it with very good specialist/engineer form Castrol laboratories. He suggest to change to 5W40 Motul 8100 X-MAX.

I changed oil to this Motul but right now I have big problem to buy it in POLAND ;-(

I have to change it to different one. I have big dilemma.

Aditionally I must to write that oil consumption is bigger on Motul 5W40 then Castrol 0W30 ;-(.

Could You help me what kind and which brand I should buy?
Pls remember that this engine is little modify by AMG.

Right now mileage is around 130k km.
I was thinking about:
Mobil 1 0W40
Valvoline Synpower 5W40
Castrol SLX ?

best regards
Peter

ps.sorry for my english.

Welcome!

Mobil 1 and Valvoline Synpower are both very good oils. I'd run either with no hesitation. Although having heard about Polish winters, I'd go with a 0w-40 for more protection on cold starts. Assuming they meet the specs of your AMG diesel.

Peter,
Your English is very good - much better than my Polish!

I've heard very good things about using Mobil 1 0w40 in all Mercedes CDI engines. My brother uses it in his Sprinter van CDI with excellent results. I think it would be a perfect oil to use especially now in winter. Plus Mobil 1 0w40 is certified to meet MB 229.5 specification, which I believe your vehicle can use.

Cheers!

Mobil 1 0W40 would be a great choice for the winter.
For the warmer months, according page 3 of Sheet 223.2, top half of page of
http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolistenmain.php?session_id=&navigation_path=&language_id=1

you can also use a 228.5 truck oil in a Mercedes car diesel.
Expensive: Delvac 1 5W40; Delvac 1 SHC (for use with higher sulfur fuels)
Medium price: Delvac XHP Extra 10W40
All Mobil products; other 228.5 10W40 truck oils should be everywhere where trucks stop.
The above 228.5 oils would be particularly good if you put on a lot of km in the summer.

Hi Peter,
If you read through this MB document, you will find that you have quite a few choices for your AMG. It looks like you cannot go wrong with Mobil 1 0W40. Can you get it in Poland?

Czesc Piotr!

Isn't M1 ESP 5w-40 available there? That could be a viable option for your diesel.

As for the oil consumption, most likely it is not related to the specific oil that you're using. Some engines just tend to begin consuming oil as they get older. Such was the case with my 530i... I've been feeding it Castrol SLX (GC) 0w-30 for years, and initially it was not consuming anything... now it takes a quarts (1 liter) about every 5k miles.

Why would anyone want to use an ESP oil with a low TBN (total base number) on a non DPF diesel?
Especially when at risk to get higher sulfur diesel in eastern Europe?
What possible advantage would ESP have over 0W40 or Delvac 1?
2003 model = Euro III = no DPF, no SCR, no EGR. Even if it has EGR a higher TBN oil would be better.

Ooops... my bad. Didn't realize that was the case.

I'm not sure if the Canadian spec sheets are outdated or wrong, but the Delvac 1 ESP 5w-40 had a substantially higher base number than Delvac 1 ESP 0w-40, somewhere around 10.1 vs. 7.7, I believe.

229.51 is an even more stringent specification than 229.5

I wouldn't run a low-SAPS oil in a gasoline engine in the States with the high ethanol content, but it is a fantastic oil for diesels as long as you are guaranteed to get low-sulphur diesel.

We switched over our non-DPF e320 cdi over to the 5w40 ESP FM (from 0w40) about 45k miles ago, and though the car ran perfectly on both oils, we have definitely gained a consistent 0.5-1.5 mpg after the switch.

However, I believe ESP 5w40 FM is a North America product only.

Thx a lot guys!

Poland winter is very cold, sometimes to -30deg.
I have to read about Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 0W40 and New Life 0W40.
