I'll be using my grandfathers old saw to build a new front porch early this fall. The build code indicates it was assembled in August of 1960, implying that the 'lifetime' lubrication is approximately 43 years old.

I took it apart and looked at it's guts. While the old grease was really in pretty good shape, since I had it apart I cleaned it all out and am looking to re-grease it with a modern product. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Robert

I would clean it out thoroughly and use either Schaeffers #229 #2 or Redline CV-2. Both have just enough cling to stay put and plenty of moly to keep the bearings lubricated, plus synthetic oils.

The grease that's there has a lot of moisture mixed in with it, but to its credit, it has done well all these years.

I agree with Mola. Though my experience is limited to Schaeffer's grease.

The Schaeffer's stays where I put it, resists wash out, squeeze out and oil / thickener separation.

Check out Tim Mills 800-737-1747 for less than $250.00 orders or orders of less than case lots.
