The distributor on my '87 Audi 4000 quattro started making a bad bearing noise recently, so I pulled it out to have a look-see. There wasn't excessive play in the shaft, so I surmised that the bushing was just dry. The lower end is oiled from a pool in the head, but there's not really any active transport of lubricant upwards to the bush below the rotor, so I think that's where the trouble is. For the time being, I shot a little tri-flow teflon-enhanced bike lube in there, but that's pretty thin and I'm afraid it'll drain down again and leave the bush dry (the problem does seem to be solved for the time being though). I'd rather not take the dist apart (tiny snap rings, $250 replacement cost) so what I need is some sort of super clingy lube that's thin enough to apply with a device like a needle oiler. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Robert
